Cattails, Rabbit Trails, and Thistlefish: Thankful

Sometimes extreme things to happen for great things to happen.

Yesterday I spent 11.5 hours in an ER room with one of my best friends. The first couple of hours were spent holding her hand while she grit her teeth through the pain before they gave her morphine. The next couple of hours were spent playing mindless games on our phones and flipping through cable television. The next couple of hours her bed was rolled in and out as she was taken to and from a CT scan. More waiting. More TV-watching.
By the 8th hour, another friend shows up with cards and a fresh sense of humor.

We didn't leave the ER until 2 am. But my friend walked away fine, although also heavily medicated.

We also walked away with memories of watching Sharknado 2 on Syfy (and the first Sharknado after that), while we became friends with the male nurse who had been there the whole time and joked about how Allie needed to be helped to the bathroom like an old lady.

Nobody wants to spend 12 hours in an ER. Nobody wants to ever experience the pain of an ER visit. But when it all turns out fine, and there's no permanent damage, and you get to hang out with two of your best friends for half a day, there's a lot to be thankful for.
Sara, Allie and I. Hour 10;)
